Curtain Trends for 2017

Window Treatments Blackout, Curtain, Prints, Trends

Whether you’re thinking of redecorate your home or you just like to keep a creative eye on what’s popular in home decorating, these curtain trends are worth taking a look at. Some you may notice are already popular, while others are unique trends for the upcoming year.

Blackout curtains are likely to become more popular.

Hotels use black out curtains for privacy but now we are seeing them more and more in residential homes. The main reason they are becoming more in demand is because there are now dozens of options to pick from. Before all these options, blackout curtains were ideal but not attractive. With creative designs, they can now be fashioned in almost any pattern or colour.

Prints are making a come back!

Patterns come in and out of favour as fashion seasons come and go. Solid colours are in demand one year and the next all my clients want are patterns. Curtains with patterns are going to be incredibly popular, especially in shades of grey.

Greens seem to be very prominent.

Top designers and trend setters are expressing a great deal of love for green along with tropical colours. This includes every shade of green, shades of brown, and floral prints.

An array of opacity choices.

These days, there are so many depths of opacity. For example, you may want a blackout curtain in your child’s bedroom to help them sleep, however you want more opaque in your living or dining room. As scientists learn more about the importance of sleep hygiene and the short-term and long-term health effects, people are researching more ways to get better sleep. The outcome of this research has led many people thinking of blackout curtains in their bedroom to improve their sleeping experience.

Curtain Lengths

Window Treatments Curtain Lengths, guidelines

Are there guidelines for how long draperies should be? As with any design rule, yes and no.

In general, draperies are designed for rooms that are more formal and elegant. Drapes that are shorter are usually meant for more relaxed and casual rooms. Many of my clients choose this style for their kitchens or modern bathrooms.

There are modifications between longer and shorter, depending on the room. Here are a few rules for concluding the best length for assorted draperies and curtains:

When designing curtains for a formal demeanour the fabric should just barely touch the floor. For a more romantic feel, consider drapes of a length that pools on the floor. Draw draperies that fall to the floor are ideal for the family room or den. This is also a preference for recreation rooms. Many choose curtains that hang above the floor moldings or baseboards; this is a drapery “rule of thumb” I follow if my clients are not sure what length of drapery to choose. For windows that are very low, try installing rods just beneath the ceiling and hanging long drapes. Cramped windows can be difficult to appreciate but by mounting curtain rods at a far distance from the opening’s outside edges; followed by, installing drapes so that they slightly cover the frame of your window it will make the window look more broad and appealing.

4 Essential Reasons Not to Neglect Window Treatments

Window Treatments curtains, shades, style, textile, Window Treatments

There are many reasons that home-owners may avoid adding window treatments. They may assume that they’re not as crucial as other textiles, or they may enjoy the appearance of their windows without curtains. In many circumstances, they just don’t want to lose the vista they have. I’m going to share four essential reasons that almost all rooms need when choosing window treatments.

1. They add privacy

2. Window treatments can safeguard your belongings

3. You can reduce your utility costs

4. They’re a unique way to showcase your creative style

If you’re like most of my clients, you don’t want strangers to be able to easily see into your home. Too often I encounter homeowners assuming if they live on a hill or in a condo on the 20th floor, that people can’t see into their homes. This isn’t true. Window curtains add the privacy you need to feel safe and secure in your own home.

Introducing high quality window treatments can prevent your furniture and other accessories from fading due to obstructing UV rays.

The Department of Energy has said that installing a variety of window treatments, such as shades and curtains can reduce how much heat is lost in the winter and how much heat is gained in the summer. The outcome is lower energy bills month after month.

Do you want your home to reflect your creative personality? Then window treatments should be an essential element of your decorating intentions. You can choose the colors that flatter your home, designs you lust after, and the perfect fabric, whether it’s luxurious silk curtains, vintage cotton velvet curtains, or streamlined cellular blinds, there are professedly endless ways you can decorate your windows that present your home and family with personal and unique style.
